- Daniel Chiang made a motion to accept the Agenda and it was seconded by Hugh Mawby
- Brian outlined some of the exciting plans being put in place for 2013.
- Encaustic painting workshop to be held at Terra Nova Barn later in the spring.
- Skookum Bee project gaining momentum, team of UBC students will be coming on board and bringing their expertise to the project. The purpose of this project is to develop locally adapted and mite resistant bee populations through breeding and queen rearing.
- Possibility of some Saturday workshops
- Annual field Day in June
- Brian outlined the possibility of going into a partnership with the Richmond Food Security Society in order to organize and keep track of club equipment. At present, Club equipment is scattered amongst various people in the club and loaned back and forth making it very hard to keep track of. The advantages of joining with the Richmond Society mean that all equipment would be in one place where there is someone available to administer the ins and outs and ensure equipment is kept in good condition. It is open Monday to Saturday during business hours. This would give club members easy access and eliminate having to coordinate with other club members to arrange times to pick up and trade around equipment. Some discussion took place but no decision was made.
- Extractor: The Club extractor is broken and in need of repairs. The cost of repairs is yet to be determined (Bob Fischer to report back on a needed part). Some members felt that the extractor was no longer in good enough condition to warrant its repair. The possibility of buying a new extractor was also discussed. A three frame extractor would be adequate and we would be looking at between $500-$700, depending on manual or electric. The decision was post phoned until actual cost of repairs can be determined.
- During this discussion a long time club member informed us that the club actually owns a second extractor. Some discussion took place and other members remembered the second extractor being donated to the Club, but nobody seemed to know its whereabouts. Some digging needs to be done to see if we can locate it. Questions about this will be put in the next Newsletter.
- Brian and other executive members put together a very extensive handout package of our Club Mission Statement and Bylaws. Members were asked to review this document and bring their ideas or changes to the next meeting (Feb) where it will be discussed and voted on.
- After coffee break Julia Common was our speaker for the evening. She gave a very enthusiastic talk outlining her “Hives 4 Humanity” Project. She has undertaken the installation of beehives in the East Hastings area where she has many remarkable stories about the spark it is creating and difference it has made to some residents of that neighbourhood.
- Meeting was adjourned at 9:15 pm.
- Next meeting is Tuesday February 12 @ 7:30 pm,
