RBA Monthly Meeting – Dr Erika Plettner, SFU – return of the in person meeting!!!!
By now many of you may have read the recent article regarding another potential weapon in the battle against varroa. Her group studies chemistry and biochemistry projects revolving around synthesis, insect olfaction and communication, and biocatalysis and are in their 3rd year of trials with a chemical compound that could paralyze and eventually kill parasitic varroa mites. We are excited to have Erika Plettner joining us for our November talk.

Christmas Party – RSVP Please
Our Christmas party/holiday social is scheduled once again this year on Tuesday, December 13th at 6:30 at Dogwood Brewery at 8284 Sherbrooke Street in Vancouver, just below Marine Drive across the street from Lee Valley. It has proved to be a very amenable place for us to meet, with reasonable cost for their homemade pizzas and organic brews. RBA Monthly Meeting – Abigail Chapman – PhD Candidate UBC
She's still working on the final topic but Abbi's, a PhD candidate in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology in UBCs Faculty of Medicine. Her project is focused on identifying the physiological impacts of infection on honey bee queens and investigating the trade-off between reproduction and immunity.
