Minutes for January 9, 2018
Meeting held in Kinsmen Pavilion at Richmond Nature Park, 7:30 pm
There were 40 people in attendance.

- November 2017 minutes
- Motion to approve November 2017 minutes made by Ian Rockeby, seconded by Alan Garr.

- President’s Report for 2017
- Successes
- Great educational speakers all year, with the exception of 1 no-show – many of these members of the RBA.
- We hosted 2 international beekeepers, Donald Studinski and Kirk Webster at BCIT and PNE.
- We put together a great candle making workshop – thanks to the Sharing Farm for hosting.
- We also had a great December Christmas party – thanks to Dogwood Brewery.
- A new RBA website was designed and launched.
- We purchased a new hand crank honey extractor, a club computer and a microscope with a camera.
- We also managed to get a newsletter out to members every month.
- The seed bank was started.
- New name tags were made for each member.
- Semi-Successes
- We didn’t quite manage to go through all the old club records and see what we want to keep and what to shred. This can be continued in 2018.
- Given our purchases, educational, candle making events and donations to BCHPA, Cottonwood gardens we spent approximately $2k more than projected at this time last year.
- Successes
- Treasurer’s Report
- RBA account currently at $8456.19.
- There are a number of expenses pending including the Kirk Webster venue, the microscope, and the new extractor.
- After all the expenses are paid up the cost will end up being roughly $1200 for the Kirk Webster event.
- Membership: 130 dues paid in 2017, down 15 from last year
- Motion to accept treasurers report made by Miriam Soet, seconded by Ian Rockeby.

- Beekeeping at the Convention Centre
- Alan Garr informed the group that he will no longer be keeping bees at the Vancouver Convention Centre, leaving an opening for someone else to take over the opportunity.
- Iotron
- Darlene Scribilo discussed the process of using Iotron to sterilize beekeeping equipment. She is working out a new system with Iotoron, and once the date has been chosen and the new system is worked out, Darlene will give details for the first run of the year.

- 3 calls were made for other nominations
- With no other nominations Shaidah Karim was voted in as President.
