Minutes November 12, 2019

Meeting held in Kinsmen Pavilion at Richmond Nature Park, 7:30 pm

There were about 45 people in attendance.

Executives in attendance: Alan Wong (President), Jonathan Jakes (Vice President), Barbara Rokeby (Treasurer), Gregg Ashby (Secretary), Jean Stewart (Member at large)

1. Welcome and introduction of Newbees
   1. There were 4 “Newbees” in attendance.
2. Minutes
   1. October 8, 2019 minutes approved. Steve motioned, Leanne seconded.
3. Donation to Hives for Humanity (H4H)
   1. Alan presented a motion to donate $500 of RBA funds to Hives for Humanity, an organization aligned with RBA’s mission. The donation would be made through the purchase of 10 flights of honey which the club can use as speaker gifts and raffle prices. H4H is a non-profit in the down-town eastside. Julia Common, founder of H4H, is an RBA member who regularly gives presentations at RBA meetings. Aaron asked if RBA will continue to make donations like this in the future. Alan advised he would encourage RBA to consider annual donations to worthy charities as funds permit. Motion carried.
4. Treasurer’s report
   1. We have about $10,750 in the bank.
5. Bees and Beers
   1. Jean reminded the members about the Bees and Beers monthly meeting on the 4^th Tuesday of every month.
6. Movie – “How to Bee”

7. Native Bee Society
   1. There is a talk on native bees this Sunday, Nov 17 at the Sharing Farm in Richmond.
8. Coffee break, raffle
   1. Leanne T. won the grand prize hive in the raffle and gifted it to the new member, Tito.
9. Guest speakers
   1. Leonard Foster gave a fascinating presentation on bee genetics and testing honey for adulteration.
