Kinsmen Pavilion at Richmond Nature Park, 7:00 PM (start time adjusted for extra discussion)
There were 44 people (including 1 ‘new bees’) present.
The president, Brian Campbell, welcomed everyone and called the meeting to order at 7:05 pm
- Eva Hoffman made a motion to adopt the October 9 /2012 minutes and it was seconded by Jeff Lee
- Announcements
- Candle making Workshop:
- The annual candle making workshop will be held at the “Red Barn” at Terra Nova Park this year (this is the same location as the June field day) end of New Westminster Hwy in Richmond.
- People will have opportunity to make either dipped candles or use the various club molds for making candles.
- Members will be charged $5.00 per pound for their candles on the way out.
- December meeting:
- Candle making Workshop:
- The next meeting will be our annual “Christmas party”. Members are asked to bring a plate of holiday goodies to share and enjoy informal mingling.
- We will also be having the draw for the unique “Bee Mobile”, handcrafted by the Lees. The draw is open to all who have paid up their membership for 2013.
- Membership may be paid right up until the start of the draw.
- Old Business
- Jeff Lee gave us a report on the BCHPA conference held in Kamploops on Nov 9-11.
- the BCHPA (BC Honey Producers Association) is our provincial association and is made up 75% of small hobbyists and small producers.
- Many governance issues were discussed, including a review of making the ‘Certified Producer Program’ more effective
- RBA members were well represented in a number of ways
- Annual Honey contest winners from the club
- Lianne and Trevor Shyry won FIRST place for Golden and Amber Honey, Third for wax category and also the People’s Choice award and the overall Premier Honey Exibitor Award
- Jeff and Amanda Lee won second in both Amber and Golden Honey
- Wayne Neidig was elected as President of the BCHPA
- Jeff Lee will represent Metro Vancouver as regional representative.
- Gerry McKee will continue on as rep for Canadian Honey council
- Julia Common presented one of the workshop’s on “Hives for Humanity”, we are hoping to have her give a similar presentation to the club sometime in the new year.

- New Business
- Discussion Regarding possible name change.
- Hugh Mawbry moderated a lively discussion with lots of opinions on this topic.
- After the general discussion Brian Campbell made a motion ,“The RBA change to a new name”. The motion was seconded by Jeff Lee.
- Members were given a chance to speak to the motion and then a vote was taken by a show of hands.
- VOTE RESULT : 11 FOR / 24 AGAINST the motion. The name will NOT be changed.
- Discussion Regarding possible name change.
- Break and Door prize draws
- After the break Brian Campbell gave a talk on Drones. He called them ‘the misunderstood and underappreciated’ members of the hive…(like many males!). He discussed their life cycle with a power point presentation and explained how they actually do give us information on the health of the hive.
